The latest report released by the Air Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) indicated that U.S. shipments of central air conditioners and air source heat pumps totaled 433,643 units in October 2014, increasing by 19.3% compared to 363,465 units sold in October 2013.
Shipments of air conditioners increased by 15.1%, to 280,524 units, compared to 243,692 units sold in October 2013, while shipments of air source heat pumps increased 27.8%, to 153,119 units, compared to 119,773 units sold in October 2013.
In 2014, until the publication of the report (December 16), shipments of central air conditioners and air source heat pumps increased by 8.9%, to 6,033,336 units, compared to 5,540,374 units sold in October 2013. Individually, central air conditioners increased by 4.9%, to 3,993,768 units, compared to 3,807,527 units sold in the same period in 2013. For shipments of the heat pump increased by 17.7%, to 2,039,568 units, compared to 1,732,847 units sold in the same period in 2013.
