International. Carrier and the Government of Vatican City State have announced the start of the installation of an HVAC system for the Sistine Chapel. Carrier's facility is specially designed to address the challenges of protecting Migue Angel's works from deterioration, the manufacturer announced in a statement.
Carrier's revolutionary HVAC system, developed by the company's team of AdvanTE3C engineers and backed by industry-leading research and development resources, expects to be installed and commissioned by the third quarter of 2014.
The new system replaces a Carrier HVAC system installed in the early nineties, and is designed to deliver exceptional performance with twice the efficiency and three times the capacity of the previous system. It uses energy-saving technologies, and others to minimize noise and limit air movement through the frescoes. To ensure highly controlled temperature and humidity levels as well as optimal airflow management, the design team completed an extensive model using a specifically developed application.
Once installed, the system is designed to be virtually imperceptible to visitors.
