Ecuador. Thanks to the technical advice provided by an Argentine organization, in Ecuador they managed to reduce 17% of the diseases caused by the mismanagement of the cold chain in meats.
The Minister of Industries and Productivity of Ecuador (Mipro) and the National Institute of Industrial Technology (INTI) had signed an agreement to carry out the corresponding actions, such as audits and evaluations of the management model of various slaughtering centers, as well as training and delivery of designs of refrigeration plants of three operational scales and rendering plant and proposals to improve management models.
Currently, Ecuador has 180 slaughterhouses and has no record of precarious refrigerators, mostly clandestine, which is intended to be reduced to 26 new slaughtering centers in which provincial governments and private capital intervene.
On the other hand, the research also yielded results that indicate in Ecuador only 46% of the meat of cattle is used, contrary to the Argentine case in which 97% is used.
Ecuador took advantage of the analysis and advice to reinforce its request for certification to the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) to declare that nation free of foot-and-mouth disease. At the moment they have been 34 months without outbreaks.
