Costa Rica. Atlas Industrial-Mabe announced that during the month of July it will begin to implement production lines that eliminate the use of HCFC-141 b in the rigid polyurethane foam used by refrigerators, for substances that do not damage the atmosphere.
As reported by the Directorate of Environmental Quality Management (Digeca) of the Ministry of Environment and Energy, Costa Rica is gradually replacing HCFCs, following the National Strategy for the Elimination of HCFCs, context in which this initiative was developed, which is part of the Project "Elimination of the consumption of HCFCs in polyurethane foam for the manufacture of domestic refrigerators in Costa Rica", executed by the Ministry from the Technical Office of Ozone of the Digeca and with the accompaniment of the United Nations Development Program, as an implementing agency.
In Costa Rica, the company Atlas Industrial S. A. is one of the main manufacturers of domestic refrigeration equipment, and the largest consumer of HCFC-141b (116.16 t of a total of 136.75 t imported on average per year).
