Colombia. An investment of $360 million pesos (about US$190,000) was made by the government of the department of Santantder in refrigeration equipment for vaccines.
As reported by the local newspaper Vanguardia.com, these systems consist of 30 horizontal refrigerators and 20 thermal boxes that were delivered to the different hospitals in Santander.
The objective of these refrigeration systems is to improve the conditions of the cold network of the institutions that present the health service, in order to expand the biological storage capacity and serve more people in vaccination programs.
In statements to the newspaper Vanguardia, Darwin Rincón, representative of the Ministry of Health of Santander, commented that "the cold boxes allow the vaccines to be transported from the Bucaramanga Collection Center to the destination municipality, from where they will be transferred to the horizontal refrigerators that guarantee a refrigerated period of up to 26 hours under all the conservation regulations established by the Pan American Health Organization."
