International. The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), at its headquarters and office in San José, Costa Rica, received LEED Certification due to its structures for sustainability and energy efficiency.
The Washington site was recognized in the Existing Construction category, which to date has been awarded to around 1,800 buildings worldwide. The maximum achievement was achieved in the energy efficiency item, where it obtained the highest number of points. LEED Certification allows buildings, compared to a conventional building, to achieve at least 25% efficiency.
For its part, the Costa Rica office, which was highlighted in the Commercial Interiors category, was developed from the beginning complying with LEED parameters, emphasizing the disposal and recycling of waste. In addition, in his interior space he used materials with less environmental impact.
For six months both buildings were evaluated in their performance to achieve the goal of LEED certification.
