Brazil. During the 28th edition of the Environment Week, concern about the coolant sent into the atmosphere was one of the topics included in the programming carried out in the city of Porto Alegre. One of the objectives was to create in consumers and professionals the awareness of the importance of recycling these components.
Organized by Asbrav, the conference, entitled "The importance of recycling liquid refrigerant fluids is everyone's responsibility", was presented by Professor João Manoel Dias Pimenta, from the air conditioning and refrigeration laboratory of the University of Brasilia.
According to the asbrav heritage board, Adâo Lumertz, despite the existence of a specific law for the recycling of these gases, the measure has not been complied with in many cases. "If we disclose that for all companies in the industry and mechanical workshops, the result will be very good for the environment, because harmful gases affect the ozone layer and cause the so-called greenhouse effect."
For his part, the chief of staff of the Municipal Secretariat of the Environment, André Carus, stresses that it is necessary to comply with the law. "We are creating a communication channel with Asbrav to raise awareness about the importance of complying with the existing law on gas regeneration. The intention is for the debate to be more informative than a confrontation."
Recycling today is done through the purchase of gas. Gas of type R22, for example, is purchased at the price of 2.00 reais per kilo.
