United States. The Odva organization, which integrates automation companies, has released its latest update with improvements in specifications for 2012, including expanded capabilities for optimization in energy use in EtherNet/IP or other CIP networks such as DeviceNet, CompoNet and ControlNet.
The EtherNet/IP specification now includes a full set of functionalities for energy awareness and power management and allows users to save energy with reduced consumption during non-operational states of devices and equipment.
"The energy functionality in EtherNet/IP and CIP allows users to measure energy consumption and consume it more efficiently," said Katherine Voss, CEO of ODVA. "Setting standards for energy information and energy management will enable manufacturers to deliver a scalable, end-to-end energy solution for their customers and reduce the overall time to run for vendors, OEMs, system integrators and end users alike."
The Odva specifications include a range of new specifications for network management, including the addition of the Snmp protocol in an EtherNet/IP device and an Rstp protoclo as another option for multiple ports and embedded technology.
