Japan. Mexichem, the Mexican chemical and petrochemical company, confirmed the acquisition of the refrigerant plant run by the Japanese chemical engineering company Showa Denko in Kawasaki.
The plant, which is undergoing refurbishment after being closed at the end of 2009, has an annual capacity of 10,000 metric tons and can manufacture the refrigerant gases R-125 or R-134A. Although its production will begin from the fourth quarter of this year with the R-125, due to the increase in demand.
With this acquisition, Mexichem becomes the only Asian producer of R-125 located outside of China. In comments published to the media, the company assured that this new plant allows them to consolidate within the refrigerant industry while accelerating their growth.
