International. The installation of the Green Enage program in 1,000 of its hotels has meant for InterContinental® Hotels Group, IHG, the LEED pre-certification by the Council for Green Buildings of the United States (USGBC).
In this country, a hotel spends on average US$500,000 in energy per year. With Green Enage, annual savings can exceed US$90,000, which generates energy efficiency of 5% to 20%. For chains like IHG with more than 4,500 hotels, the potential for energy cost savings exceeds US$300 million a year.
Under this perspective, and taking into account the need for conservation that has been generated on the planet in recent times, Green Enage will help the owners of hotel chains to respond to the growing demand of guests looking for hotels that promote sustainability and care for the environment.
Doug Gatlin, vice president of LEED's Green Building Market Development Council, said: "The built environment has a tremendous impact on our health, our quality of life, our environment and our economy. IHG recognizes the importance of this area and that is why they are innovating to offer sustainable hotels. Leed certification of these will help remind their customers, neighbors and competitors, that green building is the smartest choice."
