José Luis Correa, director of the Solutions department for Middle Americas at Johnson Controls is one of the invited speakers at the 2010 version of TecnoEdificios. He spoke to us about the topic he will present during the Congress: Energy efficiency in sustainable constructions: schematic design.
Correa explains that schematic design is a stage that is done very quickly during the planning of a construction and has not always been taken into account in existing buildings. He hopes that at this conference attendees will be able to acquire tools to introduce the characteristics of this phase of design in new constructions.
The schematic design establishes a series of characteristics that turn a building into a sustainable construction, the form, materials, ventilation strategies and natural lighting and the maximum use of the mechanical systems that serve as support. In Colombia, the industry is discovering the economic benefits and positive impact on the environment that self-sustaining buildings have, thanks to their energy efficiency.
TecnoEdificios 2010 is for Correa the opportunity to disseminate this additional step in the design of constructions, achieving greater professionalization in the sector with the use of these techniques used worldwide and "promoting this type of strategies that allow us to be much more friendly to the environment", Concluded.
José Luis Correa is a Mechanical Engineer, with a Master of Science in Environmental Design Engineering from the University College of London in England, he is currently focused on sustainability in the areas of energy efficiency and modeling.
