"Neutralizing the Carbon Footprint" is a campaign born from the concern of various civil society organizations under the slogan "Citizen actions mitigating the effects of climate change".
Upon learning about the World Climate Summit of Mayors, a large part of civil society sympathizes with the purposes and objectives of this summit and within the framework of this event a set of activities are carried out that initially express the commitment and effort of civil society in the fight against Climate Change. This is how the first phase of this campaign is organized under the name "Neutralizing the Carbon Footprint of the World Climate Summit of Mayors".
The mobilization of civil society organizations is bearing fruit. The Government of Mexico City has announced a commitment to achieve a 5% reduction in its greenhouse gas emissions by 2011. If Mexico City wants to achieve the 10% reduction, the support of various sectors such as private companies, civil society organizations and academic institutions is needed to reduce their GHG emissions to contribute with the additional 5% reduction.
That is why under the same logo and with the presence of these organizations, the campaign "Neutralizing the Carbon Footprint of the World Climate Summit of Mayors" is a citizen effort that carries out concrete activities symbolically offsetting the emissions generated on November 21 during the World Climate Summit of Mayors in Mexico City.
