Experts in land use planning warn that the increase in the price of oil will force us to rethink the current lifestyle and order it according to renewable energies.
This Thursday is developing the second day of the VI International Congress of Territorial Planning, which is held in Pamplona between September 27 and 29 under the slogan 'Walking towards a commitment for the territory'.
Since its opening, experts have hinted at where we need to go in terms of spatial planning: compact cities, greater use of renewable energies and territorial cohesion.
In this sense, José Antonio Marcén, Director of Service of the Territorial Planning Area of the Government of Navarre, has presented the experiences of the Autonomous Community, "which has a great tool, the Territorial Strategy of Navarre, and a consequence of it, the plans of territorial planning, which about to be approved will be a reference document to achieve territorial balance".
This Monday's session began with the conference of Ramón Folch, socioecologist and doctor in Biology. In his presentation, Folch has made a review from the biophysical matrix to the socio-environmental space to finish analyzing the challenges of the territory of the XXI century.
In his opinion, the ideal would be to order according to where the renewable energies are, while betting mostly on wind energy as the most profitable, since for solar to be highly effective it would be necessary to install panels in a very wide extension of the territory.
The rest of the morning has had tourism as the protagonist. The urban architect, Fernando Prats, has started his conference by stating that "the current model is finished". "It has grown disproportionately, and the paradigms of now no longer work, we must reinvent ourselves totally," he said.
For Prats, the only good thing is that "we have finally accepted that we have a problem." "We have to understand that transport is an important part of the tourism value chain, and right now the value of oil has skyrocketed. This means that tourism is going to be radically affected," he said. He believes that this will mean that "we have to change our lifestyle, shortly, for example, flights that cost less than the taxi to the airport will cease to exist."
In the same vein, the director of Studies and Research of Exceltur, Óscar Perelli, added that "our obsolete model has caused the best tourists to emigrate from our coast, a fact that has had a significant impact on our economy".
During the day on Friday, the professionals of the territorial planning will continue to debate topics such as rural development, communications or landscape. (EUROPA PRESS)
