The Saint-Gobain factory in the town of Vioño de Piélagos (Cantabria) will have from next April 5 the first solar oven of the group in the whole of the Iberian Peninsula, which has been possible after an investment of 35 million euros.
The inauguration of this furnace for the production of photovoltaic solar glass will be at 10 in the morning, and will be attended by the general delegate for Spain, Portugal and Morocco of Saint-Gobain; as well as the industrial director of Saint-Gobain Glass in the Iberian Peninsula and director of the Solar Furnace Project, and the president-general director of the Compagnie de Saint Gobain, in addition to the authorities.
The event will also be attended by representatives of national institutions and organizations, a representation of companies in the Spanish photovoltaic industry and the main companies established in Cantabria.
This project, which has an investment of 35 million euros, has involved a deep renovation of the facilities and will allow the manufacture of glass with high technical performance for the development of the renewable energy market, specifically that of the photovoltaic industry.
'SOLAR OVEN'
The new 'solar furnace', one of Saint-Gobain's most technologically cutting-edge projects worldwide, is mainly intended for the manufacture of glass with high technical performance for the development of the renewable energy market, and specifically that of the photovoltaic industry.
To specialize in the industrial activity involved in serving the solar market, considered 'strategic' by the French multinational, Saint-Gobain has chosen its Vioño factory in Renedo de Piélagos, popularly known as 'La Vidriera'. It is a new milestone that reaffirms the leading position that Saint-Gobain maintains as the first glass manufacturer in Europe and number two, worldwide.
SAINT-GOBAIN IN CANTABRIA
The Saint-Gobain Group is number one in the manufacture of glass in Europe and one of the first hundred industrial groups in the world. At the Saint-Gobain Glass production site in Vioño de Piélagos, which dates back to 1925, the company mainly manufactures high-performance glass for the photovoltaic industry and continues its traditional activity of translucent glass for the construction sector.
In addition, the Group has Saint-Gobain PAM in Cantabria and a branch of Saint-Gobain Saniplast, specialized in materials for civil works and buildings.
For all these three Cantabrian implantations, Saint-Gobain invoices more than 160 million euros and employs 325 people, of which 81 correspond to the Vioño de Piélagos factory. (EUROPA PRESS)
