Iberdrola Renovables has increased wind energy production by 75 percent in the autonomous community of Andalusia in 2010, reaching 1,594 gigawatt hours (GWh) compared to 914 GWh produced in 2009.
As indicated by Iberdrola in a note, this energy comes from the 26 wind farms that the company has installed in the region. By province, Granada has 198 megawatts, spread over four wind farms; in Malaga, the four parks in operation total 134 megawatts; in Almeria, the Tacica de Plata and Nacimiento parks have a capacity of 50 megawatts; and in the province of Cádiz, Iberdrola Renovables has eight wind farms with a capacity of more than 167 megawatts.
Also, throughout 2010, seven more parks have been incorporated in Huelva, with a capacity of 244 megawatts and one more in the province of Seville of 12 megawatts.
At the end of the year, the company had 803 megawatts of installed capacity throughout Andalusia, which represents an increase of almost 47 percent compared to the wind capacity available at the end of 2009, thus consolidating Iberdrola Renovables as "the leading company in the wind sector in the Community".
In this way, as he highlighted, Andalusia "has become the third Spanish autonomous community in wind capacity installed by the company, surpassing Galicia and only behind Castilla-La Mancha and Castilla y León".
He also pointed out that the current capacity installed by Iberdrola Renovables in the region "can provide electricity to more than one million people, that is, to the population of a province like Cádiz". (EUROPA PRESS)
