Most of us believe that recycling is the ethically right thing to do. But sadly, everyone seems to have friends, family, and acquaintances that he doesn't recycle.
Below are some of the reasons why people don't recycle and why they should:
Five reasons why people don't recycle
1. Recycling is inconvenient.
This seems to be the number one reason why people don't recycle – they don't want to go the extra mile. Some places do not have waste collection. Some people say they just aren't interested. Is that reason enough?
2. I don't have enough space in my house to recycle.
Lack of space is a problem for many. People don't want to see the trash and with little storage space for recycling bins, trash is an eyesore. Is that reason enough?
3. If I get paid, I recycle.
In some countries people are fined for not recycling. Some regions pay for bottle recycling. Some areas have no penalties or incentives for recycling. Is that reason enough?
4. Recycling doesn't make a difference. So why do it?
Misinformation about overflowing landfills, depleted resources, and climate change has convinced some people that recycling doesn't make a difference. They believe there is no problem. Is that reason enough?
5. It's hard to do.
Since there are so many facets of recycling – plastic bottles and paper – it's hard to figure out where. Is that reason enough?
Five reasons why people should recycle
1. Recycling saves energy.
Recycling saves energy because the manufacturer does not have to produce something new from raw materials from natural resources. By using recycled materials, you save on energy consumption, which keeps production costs low.
2. Recycling reduces landfills.
Recycling reduces the need for landfills. No one wants to live next to a landfill.
3. Recycling conserves our resources and protects wildlife.
By recycling, the need to destroy habitats for animals is reduced. Recycling paper alone saves millions of trees.
4. Recycling is good for the economy.
Recycling and purchasing recycled products creates increased demand for more recycled products. Products made from recycled materials use less water, generate less pollution, and use less energy.
5. Recycling helps our climate problems.
Recycling produces much less carbon emissions, which reduces the amount of unhealthy greenhouse gas emissions.
