The objectives of COP16 in Cancun are based on 4 main guidelines which are: Adaptation to Climate Change, Greenhouse Gas Mitigation, Clean Energy Financing, Technology Transfer and Global Education on the Climate Challenge.
These topics will be the focus of the discussions of the conference this December in Mexico and below we explain a little more about each of them.
Adaptation to Climate Change.- In addressing this issue, it is sought that nations find global solutions to mitigate climate change and prevent the risks it represents.
Greenhouse Gas Mitigation.-It is expected to achieve a commitment from nations, industries and people to reduce emissions of carbon and polluting gases that cause the greenhouse effect and contribute to climate change.
Clean Energy Financing.- To be in line with this objective of COP16, the participating parties seek to reach agreements to grant greater financing for the development and implementation of renewable and clean energies and end human dependence on fossil fuels.
Technology Transfer is the process of exchanging skills, knowledge, clean technologies, sustainable manufacturing methods, manufacturing samples and facilities between governments and other institutions to ensure that scientific and technological advances are accessible to a greater number of users who can develop and exploit technology into new products, processes, applications, materials or services in a sustainable way with the planet. COP16 seeks to reach global agreements that allow this transfer between nations to mitigate global emissions.
Education is the basis of change, and seeks to create a global culture and awareness of the climate situation that our environment is experiencing, in order to find solutions.
