Students in Le Havre, France will now be greeted with magnificent dormitories made of shipping containers. La Cité a Docks is a recently completed student housing project by Cattani architects consisting of 100 eco-friendly apartments offering privacy, visual transparency and fascinating insight.
The four-story building, made with 24-square-meter cargo containers that are mounted on a metal grid is a good mix of comfort, style and sustainability.
The 100 studios feature glass walls at each end that not only allow for ample daylight, but also allow students to enjoy beautiful views of the lush green garden sitting inside their cozy homes. Whether it's the ground floor or the upper floors, the units offer the same privacy.
Each unit has a bathroom, kitchen and Wi-Fi. Interior walls with wooden furniture add aesthetics.
To ensure maximum thermal and acoustic insulation, the walls of the container have been lined with reinforced concrete walls, and are inside layers of rubber to dampen vibrations. The container building is further reinforced by external extensions that become corridors, courtyards and balconies.
