Scottish Prime Minister Alex Salmond, visiting the Basque Country, announced in Bilbao that Gamesa will send a delegation to Scotland this month to assess investment opportunities in renewable energy.
Salmond has made this announcement after meeting in the Biscayan capital with the director of Gamesa José María Vázquez Eguskiza, as reported in a statement sources of the Scottish Executive.
Specifically, they have specified that the company will send a delegation to evaluate the potential of several locations in Scotland for future investments.
In this regard, Alex Salmond has pointed out that Scotland is "already a wind power" and, in addition, is at the forefront of the development of energy from waves, tides and offshore wind farms.
As he stressed, they have a quarter of the total wind and tidal resources in Europe and 10 percent of those generated by the waves, "therefore, unrivaled resources in Europe."
In this sense, he pointed out that Gamesa's visit to collect information is "a huge vote of confidence in our talent, infrastructure and experience to contribute to developing a clean, green and renewable future"
For his part, Vázquez Eguskiza stressed that Gamesa will have a leading role in offshore wind generation and wants to be at the center of its development process.
"This visit to Scotland will help us decide on potential investments in the UK, which has become a conventional wind hub and has a promising future in offshore wind farms. We have a clear interest in establishing ourselves in Scotland: we want to be in the best possible position to give our customers the best service."he said.
He also indicated that they are approaching the "final stage" their decision making and, therefore, has valued the meeting held with Prime Minister Salmond. (EUROPA PRESS)
