In the framework of the conferences held during The Green Expo from September 28 to 30, 2010, Benjamín P. Sierra Rodríguez, Manager of Distribution Standardization of the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) spoke about the great technological challenge facing the company and the projects it has to overcome it successfully.
Faced with the prospect of modernizing the electricity networks of Mexico City, the speaker said that his priority is to maintain the supply of electricity with quality and focusing on the service factor.
"By accepting the task of taking the Valley of Mexico, we encountered obstacles such as oil leaks, hot spots, weeds and lack of maintenance in the transformers. However, over the course of a year we have improved the infrastructure considerably; currently we have databases, inspections, maintenance and cleaning periodically, substations in services and we have replaced the necessary equipment, "said Sierra Rodríguez.
According to the speaker, the company intends to implement smart grids to offer a competitive service while optimizing resources. The functions offered by these networks are:
· Detects problems and corrects them before they impact
· Improves voltage profile
· Use advanced technology to improve design and performance
Currently the CFE has 34 million customers, which implies about 100 million inhabitants and represents 96.85% of the total population of the country. With 177 power plants, they have 743 thousand kilometers of driving lines.
