France. A project has been approved by the French National Assembly that obliges all new buildings to install renewable alternatives for energy production or ecological systems on their roofs.
In the bill it is known as "Biodiversity", now new constructions must bear in mind that their roofs must have solar panels or plants, as indicated by the urban planning code: it authorizes the construction of new buildings only if they are totally or partially incorporated into their roofs, and not exclusively, or a method of renewable energy production, or a vegetation system that guarantees a high degree of thermal efficiency and the isolation and promotion of the conservation and restoration of biodiversity.
With the new law, France will seek to increase the development of its solar capacity and raise the energy efficiency of new buildings, a measure that is already working in cities such as Copenhagen.
