United States. A so-called "smart fabric" that offers the possibility of generating a pleasant body temperature to people wearing clothes made with this technology, was developed by researchers at the University of California, San Diego.
This development is known as Attach (Adaptive Textiles Technology with Active Cooling and Heating) and has been funded for three years by the United States Department of Energy. The technology is designed to be used indoors with temperatures ranging from 19 to 26 °C.
The fabrics used in these clothes may or may not increase their insulation (porosity and thickness) according to temperature changes; that part of the operation would not need to consume energy, but in addition the team is preparing the integration of additional cooling and heating elements through thermoelectric devices integrated ("printed") in the clothing.
