Sweden. In the town of Gimo, Sweden, a transcritical CO2 unit was installed to provide cooling for a new ice rink.
This unit, from the Mistral model system supplied by Green & Cool, has options that provide high/medium/low temperature and sweep volume, as well as heat recovery for heating and hot water services.
The excess heat generated by heat recovery is transferred to deep wells drilled for geothermal energy storage. The transcritical CO2 system with heat recovery has been shown theoretically and experimentally to be more energy efficient with a better COP than typical individual or cascade transcritical systems.
