International. An Indian engineer from Bengal Engineering & Science University submitted a research proposal to the Department of Science and Technology of his country's government to develop a sun shirt.
According to the website CrazyEngineers, the T-shirt would carry 2.5"-3" solar cells, which when exposed to the sun would produce around 400 watts of energy. Engineer named Santipada GonChaudhury says he and his team are trying to develop a new technology to integrate solar cells directly into T-shirt fibers or into pockets.
The shirt would carry solar cells to power small fans located in the middle of two layers of fabric. The fans would keep the user cool during hot days. GonChaudhary hopes the shirt can produce enough power to charge mobile phones, tablets and other smaller digital gadgets.
Responding to the question about the value of the shirt, GonChaudhary said he would expect the price to be around $29.
