Brazil. Brazil's state-owned Petrobras has won the right to renew its stake in the Dow Jones sustainability index effective Sept. 24, the company said in a statement.
Petrobras' permanence in the index that groups the 20 most sustainable global companies in the oil and gas segment was considered based on a series of evaluation criteria that included transparency, brand management, environmental performance, development of human resources and management of social projects.
The announcement was made amid accusations against the Brazilian oil company for attacking the environment, after the rupture of one of its pipelines that affected the Serra do Mar ecosystem and the livelihood of 5,400 artisanal fishermen, for which Petrobras risks a fine of US $ 1,600 million.
