Argentina. In this nation, buildings are responsible for 40 percent of total energy consumption. Within each corporate building, the energy consumption of HVAC systems accounts for nearly 70 percent of their consumption.
In this framework, Cooling as a Service (CaaS) is presented as a financial instrument designed to overcome the main barriers faced by the HVAC market for the clean cooling of commercial and industrial buildings, promoting incentives for efficient production and consumption. This model allows end users to base their purchasing decision on the life cycle cost of the cooling system, rather than price.
In its ongoing quest to promote the adoption of this model, BASE announced in January 2020 the Cooling as a Service (CaaS) Incubator, an initiative from which it supports five technology providers around the world in the implementation of CaaS projects.
In this framework, BGH Eco Smart was one of the five companies selected among 35 applicants from different regions and sectors as one of them to promote the business model in Argentina and the region. The projects include air conditioning and refrigeration for commercial and industrial buildings (such as universities, shops, shopping malls, offices and hotels).
Since then, BGH Eco Smart and the rest of the selected companies have created a team dedicated to working with BASE on the technical, legal, fiscal, commercial and financial aspects, with the aim of launching the first demonstration projects for the third quarter of 2020.
"We are very proud to be one of the few companies in the world that have been selected to promote the Refrigeration as a Service model in our country and the region," said Martín Méndez Decoud, Commercial Manager of BGH Eco Smart. "We firmly believe in this model in which user and supplier build a long-term relationship, driving the business in both directions and, above all, generating awareness in large companies and organizations about the importance of energy efficiency."
BGH Eco Smart is a local company specialized in energy efficiency, with a diversity of products and a regional presence. "In its DNA is technological innovation and the flexibility to adopt new solutions and develop new markets. As such, they are a very strong partner to promote all the advantages of the Refrigeration as a Service model in Argentina," said Thomas Motmans, Sustainable Energy Finance Specialist at BASE.
