Mexico. Trina Solar announced that its China State Strategic Laboratory of Photovoltaic Science and Technology (LEE CTFC) has set a new world record of 24.58% efficiency in monocrystalline "N" type silicone solar cells with i-TOPCon (passivated contact with tunnel oxide) technology.
The record-breaking bifacial solar cell was manufactured on a large plate of 244.62 square centimeters (cm2) with a low-cost industrial process with industrial tunnel oxide passivated contact technology (i-TOPCon), having a boron front emitter and a full passive contact back area. The bifacial solar cell achieved an efficiency of 24.85% from the front, without using any special aperture during lighting. This result has been confirmed by the Independent IsFH Calibration and Testing Laboratory in Germany.
"We are delighted to announce the latest achievement of our research team at LEE CTFC, to our knowledge, this is the new world record for efficiency in a total area of a dual-contact silicone solar cell," said Jifan Gao, Global Ceo of Trina Solar. "The excellent results from R&D lay a solid foundation for Trina to provide new high-end and differentiated PV modules and solutions for our customers."
