International. The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has published the first international standard for the Internet of Things (IoT) that is internationally standardized and uses a common vocabulary in reusable designs and industry best practices.
The new standard published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), called ISO/IEC 30141 Internet of Things (IoT)-Reference Architecture, provides a common framework for designers and developers of IoT applications, which allows the development of reliable, safe, protected, privacy-friendly systems capable of facing interruptions due to natural disasters or cyberattacks.
The ISO/IEC 30141 standard has been developed by the joint technical committee of the International Organization for Standardization and the International Electrotechnical Commission: ISO/IEC JTC 1, Information Technology; subcommittee SC 41: Internet of Things and related technologies.
This first international Internet of Things standard is a clear example of how standardization effectively contributes to ensuring the success of digital transformation. Altogether, more than 600 international standards are under review to ensure the proper functioning of Industry 4.0, in aspects such as interoperability, connectivity, cybersecurity, advanced robotics or 3D printing.
In addition to the newly published standard, the ISO/IEC working group is developing future standards; such as the one that will establish the application framework for the energy management of the demand of industrial facilities or the network of sensors for wireless gas meters, among others.
