Ecuador. As world leaders and diplomats gathered in Quito from 5 to 9 November for the 30th Meeting of the Parties (MOP 30) to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer, the Global Forum for Advanced Climate Technologies (globalFACT) has hosted a panel of experts from across the HVAC/R sphere.
The roundtable, titled Challenges and Opportunities in the Refrigerant Transition, was held on November 6 in order to provide insight into the wide range of solutions available to meet environmental regulatory objectives.
"globalFACT strongly supports the objectives of the meeting. We recognize the important role the HVACR industry plays in helping to protect the environment on a global scale," said Jordan Smith, CEO of globalFACT.
Speakers included Kevin Fay, executive director of The Alliance for Responsible Atmospheric Policy; Greg Picker, CHIEF Executive Officer, Refrigerants Australia; Mark Stanga, president of Competition Advocates, on behalf of Daikin Industries; and Mike Thompson, global head of refrigerant applications at Ingersoll Rand.
Smith added, "GlobalFACT's mission is to help foster an understanding of all available lower GWP options as end users move towards more environmentally sustainable products and practices. There are options that can work for everyone."
Launched in September, globalFACT has published a technical report, "Selecting the Right Refrigerant for Commercial Refrigeration: Achieving High Performance While Reducing Environmental Impact," which aids in the decision-making process when choosing alternative refrigerants in commercial refrigeration equipment.
The group has also introduced a cost calculator that calculates electricity values and total emissions based on the characteristics of a commercial refrigeration system.
