International. Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) announced a new 'global cooling panel for all' during the UN General Assembly and New York Climate Week. Danfoss has been named a member of the new panel, which will work to increase access to affordable and sustainable refrigeration solutions around the world.
The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe has estimated that by 2050, the world's population will reach 9 billion, of which 70% will live in cities, which is equivalent to adding 235 cities the size of Paris. This, combined with rising global temperatures, will lead to a boom in demand for refrigeration devices such as air conditioning and refrigerators and a corresponding increase in energy demand, creating additional impacts on the climate. Currently, air conditioning and refrigeration cause 10% of global CO2 emissions, which is three times the total emissions attributed to aviation and shipping, and an estimated 1 billion people still lack access to refrigeration.
To spur action and leadership in increasing access to affordable and sustainable cooling solutions, the Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) initiative launched a Cooling for All initiative and the Global Panel to drive it forward. Danfoss will be represented by Jürgen Fischer, President of Danfoss Cooling. "Everyone should have access to these essentials. But we need to go a step further, providing cooling in a sustainable way that addresses global warming at the same time. Danfoss looks forward to contributing our deep knowledge in this field and helping to accelerate the implementation of efficient and clean solutions," said Fischer.
In the 'global cooling for all panel', Danfoss will work alongside other senior leaders in business, politics and academia. The panel will be led by two co-chairs: President Hilda Heine of the Marshall Islands, and Dr. Vincent Biruta, Minister of Natural Resources of the Republic of Rwanda.
