International. Daikin Industries, Ltd., announced that sales of its air conditioners and heat pumps with HFC-32 (R32) have recently reached the mark of 10 million units sold globally in more than 50 countries.
Daikin said in this regard that he thoroughly examined the different refrigerants and concluded that HFC-32 is the most balanced and that it is currently the most suitable refrigerant for air conditioners and heat pumps for residential and commercial use. In November 2012, Daikin was the first company to launch an air conditioner with HFC-32, and in the approximately four and a half years since the introduction of refrigerant, the company has reached sales of 10 million units.
Including sales results from other companies, Daikin estimates that more than 27 million HFC-32 air conditioners had been sold as of March 2017, and estimates show a reduction in consumption of approximately 47 million tons of CO2 equivalent through the use of HFC-32 air conditioners.
In a statement, the company said: "To enable manufacturers around the world to manufacture HFC-32 air conditioners and contribute to their further dissemination, since 2011 we have offered free access in emerging countries to a cumulative total of 93 patents related to the manufacture and sale of HFC-32 air conditioners. In September 2015, we extended this access to all countries, thus initiating free access to these patents in developed countries. In addition to that, Daikin has provided technical assistance in emerging countries, such as India and Thailand. For example, at the request of the Thai government, we conducted training in the installation and maintenance of HFC-32 air conditioners to local manufacturers, so that they could acquire the skill in the proper handling of HFC-32. Daikin is not only involved in the distribution and sales promotion channels, but is laying the foundation for HFC-32 air conditioners to gain widespread acceptance and maintain steady growth in global sales.
