International. In the second year of its Climate Commitment, Ingersoll Rand highlighted its significant reduction of the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) refrigerant footprint of its products and operations while convening industry leaders to develop long-term solutions aimed at solving climate challenges globally.
Since announcing the commitment in 2014, the company has led the cancellation of approximately 2 million metric tons of CO2e in the world, which is equivalent to avoiding annual CO2 emissions; used in more than 270,000 homes or more than 2.1 billion pounds of burnt coal.
"Announcing our commitment to increase energy efficiency and reduce GHG emissions related to our operations and products was an important milestone for Ingersoll Rand," said Paul Camuti, Senior Vice President of Innovation and Chief Technology Officer of Ingersoll Rand. "Our progress to date demonstrates that we have the expertise to meet our goals, while delivering innovative and sustainable products to our customers helping them achieve their own sustainability goals."
As part of the Climate Commitment, Ingersoll Rand launched EcoWise, a portfolio of products designed to reduce environmental impact with refrigerants with low heating potential and high-efficiency operation. The company has introduced six products under the EcoWise label, including the RTWD R-series chiller launched in November, used for commercial buildings and industrial applications.
Other successful initiatives led by climate commitment include the design and implementation of a proprietary tool to measure GHG emission reductions with targets related to its product portfolio and employee-led programs to identify facility upgrades and integrate sustainability modules within the product design process.
"We play a critical role in solving some of the world's most serious climate challenges, including projected 37% growth in global energy demand and working to keep temperature rise below 2 degrees Celsius globally, "we play a critical role." said Gary Michel, Senior Vice President and President of the Residential Area of Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning and Supply. "Our employees and customers expect us to help meet these challenges and that's exactly what we're doing."
