Bolivia. Clean energy projects (hydroelectric, wind, solar and geothermal) are estimated to generate 74% of the electricity in this country while the other 26% will be generated by thermoelectric plants, in a forecast for 2025 by the national government.
Until last year, 1% of the generation came from alternative sources. For its part, the National Electricity Company (ENDE), which provided the forecast information, explained that according to the energy planning of the Bolivian State, through its affiliates and subsidiaries, it promotes the change of energy matrix so that until 2025, projects with 'clean energies' such as hydroelectric, wind, solar and geothermal, lead the generation of electric power."
According to data from the state electricity company, until last year, 69% of electricity generation came from thermoelectric plants, 30% from hydroelectric plants and the remaining 1% had alternative or renewable energy sources.
The report also details that there are 19 projects under study, distributed in the nine departments of the country, which will generate a total of 7,221.8 megawatts (MW) of power. It also includes a list of six potential hydroelectric projects, five of which will be located in the Rio Grande complex, and which will produce a total of 2,422 MW.
