International. LonMark International, with the cooperation of Echelon Corp., the TC-247 Technical Committee of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN), and LonMark Germany, has announced plans to develop a new network control standard for the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT).
This new LonTalk/IP standard added a native IP versus the International Network Control Protocol ISO/IEC 14908-1 standard, and is an important element for network control platforms that require connectivity to larger enterprise networks and the Internet. The new standard will allow network control applications to take advantage of standard IP infrastructure, IP network management tools, and IP diagnostic tools.
"The time is right for a new standard network control for IP, as the global market for network control products is rapidly evolving for consumers and industry such as new mobile products, IoT devices, and IioT solutions rapidly entering the market," said Ron Bernstein, CEO of LonMark International. "Some of the main IIoT solutions where the new standard will be deployed will be in the construction of automation systems, lighting control systems, automation systems, intelligent city transportation applications, and utility metering systems."
LonMark International intends to bring the same standard through the ANSI/CTA body of standards simultaneously. This LonTalk/IP extension to the standards catalog is expected to greatly improve the ease of use and deployment of larger systems and provide an open network control solution for the IioT.
