United States. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced the winners of the climate leadership awards who will be honored for their leadership in helping to combat climate change. Ingersoll Rand will be presented with an organizational leadership award for the elimination of HFCs and other refrigerants.
Ingersoll Rand has more than 40,000 employees and more than 60 manufacturing plants worldwide with brands such as Trane and Thermo King. Among its achievements, the company has set a greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction goal of 35% from 2013 to 2020 for global operations. The company has further committed to reducing the climate impact relative to refrigerants used in its products by 50% by 2020 and incorporating lower global warming potential (GWP) refrigerant alternatives across the product range by 2030.
Through collaboration with external organizations, such as the Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development, Ingersoll Rand has contributed the book to the 2003 Industry Geniuses, the 2007 adjustment to the Montreal Protocol accelerating the phase-out of HCFCs, and the pending amendment in the Montreal Protocol to eliminate HFCs.
The company also partnered with refrigerant manufacturer Chemours (formerly DuPont) to develop a new generation of low-GWP refrigerant that has an R-410A-compatible design and is efficient and safe, and requires little engineering of current systems.
