Chile . The latest analysis of copper production indicates that the South American country suffered a sharp decline during the month of January for reasons such as a decrease in operations in some sites amid an adverse external scenario.
The collapse of the main producer of this type of metal in the world was 13.8%, after producing 453,638 tons of copper in the first month of the year, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
These figures are the result of the low prices and high costs involved in the production of this mineral, this has meant that cuts to production and personnel have been reported, due to the collapse in global prices of the metal, which this year have reached lows of six and a half years.
For its part, the Chilean Copper Commission (Cochilco) estimates that for this year copper production would report an advance of 0.1% compared to the 5.76 million tons reached in 2015.
