International. Bosch announced that it has strengthened its smart home solutions business. The newly founded subsidiary, Robert Bosch Smart Home GmbH, will bring together all the company's activities related to the "smart home", including software and the experience gained in sensor systems.
In the future, the new company will offer many products and services for a single-vendor's "smart homes": for example, a new solution that can report intrusions and help control heating to save energy. Since January 2016, customers can now buy the first Bosch products in this field online. These include the Bosch smart home controller, a smart thermostat and a door or window contact. Bosch's smart home solutions are aimed at a gigantic market: according to experts, by 2020 some 230 million homes worldwide – almost 15% of all homes – will equip "smart home" technologies.
"The creation of the Bosch Smart Home subsidiary is an important strategic step towards sharing and expanding our range of smart home solutions. Smart homes provide new services that make people's lives easier and offer great business potential," says Stefan Hartung, Member of the Board of Management of Robert Bosch GmbH and Head of the Energy and Building Technology business area, to which the new company belongs.
