Argentina. The Argentine government revealed details about the new energy tariff scheme that could register increases that exceed 500%, but that would mean savings for the Government of about US $ 4,000 million in 2016 and benefits for 900,000 households for the new social tariff.
Although he did not give percentage increases, the Minister of Energy, Juan José Aranguren, explained that 70% of users, which represent the consumption categories R1, R2 and R3 -with an average consumption of 202 kwh / month-, will go from currently paying 26 pesos with subsidy to paying 158 pesos without subsidy and without savings.
In the event that the user -always referred to an invoice from the distributors Edenor and Edesur that cover the Federal Capital and Greater Buenos Aires- has a consumption saving of 10% compared to the same period of the previous year, the bill will go from 26 to 128 pesos, and if the savings are 20% it will become 106 pesos; while for those who did not have a subsidy since 2011 they will pay from the current 102 pesos to 158 pesos, respectively, according to the savings.
The minister also clarified the case of the 900,000 users that the Ministry of Energy estimated will be able to access in the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires (AMBA) to the social tariff will have an electric service of up to 150 kwh / month without charge, and in the event that consumption exceeds that limit but reflects a saving compared to the same period of the previous year will pay the surplus to the cost of subsidized energy, and in case of extra consumption you will pay the full rate and announced this week of 320 pesos per Mwh.
