United States. In order to fight climate change, the Clean Power Plan has been announced by the President of the United States, Barack Obama.
This plan led by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) presented a final version in which it raised the emissions reduction target to 32% by 2030, unlike the 30% target set in 2013.
The plan now sets carbon pollution standards in state power plants and utilities: States will need to present how they will educate pollution through 2016 and deliver a final version of that plan by 2018. The government announced that it will incentivize companies to take pollution reduction measures in 2020, with carbon reduction credits.
Measured in numbers, this plan seems to offer some benefits: the approximate cost of the plan will be about $8.4 billion, while the health and climate benefits are about $54 billion. In addition, the approximate annual savings of energy bills per household is equivalent to US$85 and the consumer savings from 2020 to 2030 are estimated at US$155 billion.
