International. Trane announced that it has obtained Type III Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) verification and registration for its entire Trane CenTraVac product portfolio.
EPD Type III verification checks environmental demands regarding chiller performance and documents in accordance with the strict certification requirements of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
Certification provides independent specifiers and building owners with third-party verification of environmental performance demands. In 2011, Trane EarthWise CenTraVac became the first commercial chiller to obtain Type III EPD registration. This year, the certification was expanded to include the Trane Series L, Series S and Series E chillers.
"Trane has always been committed to meeting the highest level of performance and environmental sustainability standards," said Ryan Geister, Trane's cooling systems leader. "Now with EPD Type III certification for all of our CenTraVac systems, our customers can make informed purchasing decisions with independently verified environmental performance data."
EPD certification also helps building owners earn LEED points. Within the v4 certification program for green construction, any CenTraVac chiller can help earn some LEED point in the Materials and Resources category for building product disclosure and optimization.
