India. A dozen workers at a meat processing plant in Uttar Pradesh reportedly collapsed following an ammonia leak from a refrigeration system.
Six women workers at the Frigorifico Allana meat processing unit in Sahibabad fell unconscious and were all taken to hospital, where five of them were admitted to intensive care.
Workers affected by Frigorífico Allana's meat processing unit were taken to a hospital, where doctors said their condition was critical. The condition of two of the employees is said to be serious.
Police claim to have registered a case against two company officials for negligence.
This is the second incident of ammonia at the plant in the past seven months. In November last year, 27 workers from the same plant were admitted to hospital after an ammonia leak from a cooling valve.
