Spain. A private cooling tower located in the surroundings of the center of Salamanca was closed by the Ministry of Health due to the multiple cases of legionellosis that occurred and that apparently were generated by the malfunction of the equipment.
In total, nine cases have been filed. The Ministry of Health took samples in the towers located in the environment, where they obtained positive results in one of these towers, which was immediately closed because it was the emitting focus.
This was explained to local media by the Minister of Health, Antonio María Sáez Aguado, who said that there are currently five hospitalized people who are evolving satisfactorily and another has complications.
The counselor assured that they will investigate responsibilities on the management of the tower indicated as the emitting focus, and that they will continue to carry out analyzes to other towers to rule out other foci, although they consider it something unlikely.
