International. The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) has extended its Set your AC to 24°C campaign to raise awareness among residential and commercial consumers about the importance of streamlining consumption to preserve natural resources.
The campaign encourages consumers to adopt environmentally friendly lifestyles in their homes and workplaces by setting their air conditioner to 24°C, which they ensure is the optimal temperature for the human body.
The efforts are in line with Dubai's Green Economy for Sustainable Development initiative, to reduce energy demand by 30% by 2030.
According to Mohammed Saeed Al Tayer, CEO of Dewa, awareness campaigns have achieved remarkable results. "Between 2009 and 2013, we managed to reduce electricity consumption by about 1.012GWh of electricity, and 18.5 million m3 of water, eliminating the release of 466,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions. This helped save some €131 million," he said.
