United States. Carrier revealed that two years after entering into an agreement with EOS Clima Inc. to ensure responsible end-of-life management of used refrigerants, the program has avoided 111,000 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions, equivalent to taking 23,000 passenger vehicles off the road for a year.
"This is a significant achievement that builds on a long history of innovation and natural leadership. Twenty years ago, Carrier pioneered the phase-out of refrigerants well in advance of U.S. and international requirements. While the decision set the tone for moving forward, I am proud that the company continued to drive towards a more comprehensive solution that incorporates the responsible management of refrigerants from our past," said John Mandyck, chief sustainability officer at UTC Building & Industrial Systems.
Through its relationship with EOS Climate, the use of CFC refrigerants and their resulting greenhouse gases are destroyed in compliance with standards set by the Climate Action Reserve and the California Air Resources Council. .
The programme is part of the EOS Climate Refrigerant Revolution, an association of leading companies working to revolutionise the management of refrigerants in their lifecycle. Organizations have the opportunity to move beyond compliance requirements to complete lifecycle management and demonstrate environmental and sustainability leadership. The program is available to all Carrier business customers.
