International. A new technology was recently unveiled, which could save $1.94 billion in energy costs within supermarkets.
Experts developed and patented a system to improve energy efficiency in cooling systems, by eliminating the need for any external power source to run the defrosting process.
The defrost system uses a small thermal stock to source recycled waste heat used to thaw an evaporator with a thermosyphon. The thermal accumulator also sub-cools the liquid that enters the cabinet increasing profits during the period when the cabinet is cooling.
The system is said to be virtually fast and power-free with much less unwanted heat entering the cabinet. Tests have shown a possible reduction of at least 25% of total cooling energy consumption.
The technology developed by the international company Frigesco can also be applied to all parts of the cold chain such as domestic freezers, cold rooms, refrigerated containers and heat pumps.
