Peru. The Ministry of Health reported that it has acquired 13,630 refrigeration equipment to remodel the cold chain that is used in the conservation of vaccines in health centers throughout the nation.
As revealed by the newspaper Andina, the ministry acquired equipment that has the authorization of the World Health Organization (WHO). 6,360 electric Ice-Line refrigerators; 6,110 electric freezers; 982 solar refrigerators; and 178 solar freezers are modernizing existing systems and strengthening vaccine conservation at WHO-recommended temperatures ranging from 0°C to 8°C.
"During 2013 there has been the greatest strengthening of the cold chain, among which are the freezers that work on the basis of solar energy and those that will allow to supply cold packages to the vaccination brigades that move along the banks of the rivers of the Amazon," the head of the ministry told the national newspaper.
