International. A new handbook on the design of HVAC systems for hospitals and health centres was recently published by Ashrae.
The manual provides guidance for mechanical engineers and consultants, designers, architects, facility managers, infection control personnel, maintenance personnel, contractors, developers, and licensed officers.
Under the name "HVAC Design Manual for Hospitals and Clinics, Second Edition (First Edition in 2003)", it provides in-depth design recommendations based on best practices, and presents proven, cost-effective and reliable solutions that result in low maintenance costs and high reliability with systems that provide the desired performance and efficiency.
"The handbook presents a unified and comprehensive summary of engineering training on the standard, how to comply with it, and alternatives for engineering best practices beyond the minimum requirements. The main objective of this manual is to raise awareness of the differences about the design of HVAC systems for hospitals and health centres," said Daniel Koenigshofer, editor of the manual.
