Brazil. The Brazilian division of Meliá Hotels International received the 2012 Sustainability Award in the category "Contributions to Improvement for Business Development", awarded by the Official Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Brazil.
This recognition applies to Spanish companies with a presence in the South American country that have worked on projects inclined towards the care of the environment and social action. In 2011, the hotel group carried out 647 sustainable actions in its twelve hotels, in addition to integrating some members such as Unicef, www Brasil, Cedeca ba and the Abih Abrinq Foundation.
The director of the Brazil division of the hotel company, Rui Manuel Oliveira, commented on the award that his group is making from Brazil a sustainable economic model through participation in ecological, social and cultural actions.
