International. Air conditioning system maker Daikin confirmed it will buy its U.S. counterpart Goodman, worth $3.8 billion.
With this acquisition, the Japanese firm will seek to improve its position in the United States market, where it is still weak, especially in centralized air conditioning systems; In addition, once the operation is completed, it expects to achieve combined sales of US$15,267 million.
In 2010, Daikin had already entered into talks with Goodman to acquire it, but the earthquake and tsunami in Japan in 2011 canceled the negotiation due to the uncertain economic outlook at the time. Now that it has happened, the operation will be financed by loans that include the participation of the Japanese Bank for International Cooperation (Jbic).
