United States. A Seattle-based seafood company has agreed to pay a $430,000 fine for the release and improper management of R22 refrigerant at its facilities.
Icicle Seafoods Inc. reached an agreement to resolve the violation of the federal Clean Air Act as a result of leaks of R22 refrigerant from refrigeration systems aboard its fishing vessels and processing facilities, this in accordance with a consent decree filed by the U.S. Department of Justice on behalf of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
The company had a number of violations of this law between 2006 and 2008 associated with refrigerant, which include failures to repair refrigerant leaks in a timely manner, failing to ensure proper repairs to refrigeration appliances before resuming operations, making improper service records of refrigeration appliance repairs, among others.
